Paris Hilton goes to Jail
|
|
The 26-year-old partying heiress goes to jail, after a judge from California sentenced her to spend 45 days behind the bars for driving her Bentley with a suspended license, violating her probation.
The hotel-chain namesake will call the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, her temporary home, starting June 5. There will be no house-arrest options, no furloughs, no work release, no use of an alternative jail and no monitoring-bracelet breaks—she will do 45 days straight, per the judge.
The judge ruled that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
The tearful beauty, who had claimed she believed her suspension had expired, told Judge Michael T Sauer: “I want you to know I am very sorry.
“And from now on, I’m going to pay complete attention to everything. I don’t think I’m above the law. I did what I was told.”
"What do you think?" Kathy Hilton asked an inquiring reporter. "This is pathetic and disgusting, a waste of taxpayer money with all this nonsense. This is a joke."
Hilton's attorney, Howard Weitzman, told reporters he was "shocked and disappointed" by the sentence. "To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous," Weitzman said. "She was singled out for who she is. She's been selectively targeted. Paris was honest in her testimony. We plan to appeal. Shame on the system."
Paris will be locked up with drug addicts and thieves in the medium-level all-woman security Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood, California.
The star was last night freed on conditional bail. But she was told if she does not arrive at the jail in June, her sentence will be 90 days.
