The latest on Britney’s custody battle
|
|
It has been a tough week for Spears. Monday was not the best day for the pop star, as a custody hearing at a courthouse in Los Angeles nearly got derailed by sideshows, and the troubled star is set to lose her two sons, after allegations that she took drugs in front of them.
Former bodyguard of the singer, Tony Barretto, who was revealed as the "secret witness” came forward and filed a declaration in the custody battle which alleges "issues of nudity by Ms. Spears, drug use and safety issues involving the children."
After revealing the drug claims, he also said Spears walked around naked in front of Sean Preston, two, and one-year-old Jayden James.
Outside the court, Allred announced her client was ready for cross-examination by Spears' attorneys, having filed a formal declaration detailing alleged "drug use, nudity and safety issues" perpetrated by Spears in front of her children.
In a letter, Allred claims Spears' behavior led Barretto to become "very concerned" about the welfare of her and Federline's sons—Sean Preston, who marked his second birthday on Friday, and Jayden James, who turned one last Wednesday.
“He became very concerned about the children and their safety. Though he was reluctant to come forward and become embroiled in her custody dispute he decided to do so because of his concern about the safety and well being of the children. He is a father of young children himself." said Allred.
Barretto, who was employed by Britney, resided full-time at Spears' home just after she completed a stint in rehab, until May 17.
Laywer Gloria Allred told reporters: "He was employed as a bodyguard for Ms. Spears from the time she came out of rehab until May 17th. “During that time he was in her home on a full time basis, drove Ms. Spears to various appointments and observed her behavior inside of her home, outside of her home and around her children."
Barretto, said he was sacked for failing to hear her when she told him to pick up her hat.
Of her client's dismissal, Allred said "He was terminated because he did not hear her when she asked him to pick up her hat," adding that he opted to come forward now because "he is a father of young children himself."
In yet more bad news for the singer, her management company and her lawyer announced they had dropped her.
Hours before the hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court, her legal representative, Laura Wasser, ended their relationship because, according to sources, the singer is a "problem client".
Spears will now be fronted by Melvin Goldsman and Marci Levine, who successfully got custody for David Hasselhoff earlier this summer.
Britney Spears' manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, of the Firm, issued a statement saying: "It saddens us to confirm media reports that we have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears.
"We believe Britney is enormously talented, and has made a terrific record. But current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job. We wish Britney the best."
